A Very Funny Christmas
I have to say that I have had a wonderful holiday this year. Things seemed to be very balanced for me. I started off getting lots of perks and free things from my temporary work, making me feel like I was getting spoiled. Then I got the flu, which made me feel like I was right where I belonged again.
Then, even though I was sick as a dog on Christmas eve day and had to stay home from work, it was only going to be a half-day anyway, so I didn't even lose that much income. It took me a bit to get over my bout of illness, but thankfully I had ten days off over the holidays and didn't have to worry about skipping any work while I recuperated. It would seem my yin and yang are getting along rather well these days.
Miraculously, for the first time in years and years and years no one in my family is fighting with anyone else and Christmas was quite pleasant. I even spent a day shopping and having an enjoyable lunch with my two sisters without any psychological damage to anybody. But then half of Asia was swallowed by water. Go figure!
Anyway, see if you can make out anything about my personality by this partial list of awesome Christmas gifts that I received:
- DVD, Kids in the Hall Same Guys New Dresses
- DVD, Shaun of the Dead
- DVD, Seasons 3 and 4 of Mr. Show
- Hardcover book, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Presents America: The Book, A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction
- Sony discman
- Various music and book gift certificates
- Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate
And you wonder why I'm as happy as a pig in poop. I of course have not had a chance to watch/read all of my great stuff, but I've been through quite a bit of it already. The great thing is that it's stuff I can enjoy again and again. (I've already watched Shaun of the Dead twice and plan on watching it with commentary later today. I just need to remind myself not to pore over it too relentlessly, or else I risk making myself wistful and completely unmotivated. I did that a bit with Spaced and don't want to do it again.)
So anyway. That was my Christmas. I stayed home for New Year's Eve and was very excited about that. It's always such an overblown thing, you spend a crap-load of money on drinks and cover charges and coat checks and tips and then it takes a million years to get a cab back home and in the end you've had just a so-so time (especially because they play classic rock there which is not my favourite at all).
So the cute boyfriend and I decided to stay home this year. My roommates and other friends went out, though. They all hung out at our house before they went out so we sat and talked and drank before they left. Then I played all of the music that I love and danced my face off until they came home at about 3:30 or so and sat around with them for a few hours talking and listening to music until it was time to toddle off to bed. It was great. I felt like I had the best time of everyone and I didn't spend a dime or have to deal with crowded, smoky bars or surly cab drivers. All in all a great way to start the year.
Anyway, I know this is a lame post, but I do have some thoughts about some of the things I received for xmas and would like to elaborate on that a bit (yeah, it's about comedy and humour and like that, but I'm sorry, I think about it a lot). I'll try to get something up next week. I am now off to take a walk with the roommates to take advantage of the relatively mild temps we've been experiencing lately.
Hope you all had a great holiday, too! Happy new year everybody!
